Day Four

I wrote myself a little encouraging note in my book of ideas.

Remember! This is not about quality, this is just the rough copy!

And now, it's down to business. I didnt quite reach my goal yesterday but I did manage to get 4817 words. I might end up being behind again today, but I'm going to pick at this story until I go to bed tonight.

Thankyou Chelsy for liking my story, and I'm sorry you can't do it this year, but when things setting down for you, maybe you can have your own NaNo, like Chelsy's Extravogant Writing Month, where you can work on the stories you have already started, but set a goal to finish on a certain date.

Day Three, Continued

Ok, so I spent all day looking at forums, facebook, livejournal, etc. You get the picture. I'm distracting myself. I haven't written a word (in my story) all day. I'm trying to get down to business but I cannot seem to close all these other windows. I even started a post about why I don't vote in any elections, which of course stirs people up quite a bit.

I don't know why I am doing this. Procrastination, I hate you.

Day Three

I ended my writing last night at 3755 words and went to bed with a headache. When I woke up this morning, I wanted to start writing again but I didn't want to get out of bed. I'm thinking of keeping my laptop near my bed instead of under my computer desk, but the problem with that is, I will still need to pack it up every night. My kitty has already chewed part of the power cord to it, so I have to keep it away from her when she is unsupervised.

This morning when I finally got out of bed, I showered and sat down at my desk to a coffee. I opened my little notebook and started scribbling again about my story, using a "Chung Hwa" Chinese drawing pencil, which actually isn't good enough to draw seriously with, but I bought it because I love the little Chinese writing on it. Now it finally has a use, after two years of sitting unused in my tin pencil case.

My goal for today is 5000 words, I have no doubt that I will be able to pass it.

Day Two

I finished my quota for the day in the early afternoon and took a break from writing. I think this has actually made me lose touch with my story and now that I want to start writing again, I don't know if I can get back into it.

I love my idea, I just cant seem to find the best words to describe everything.

I guess what I learned last year was, NaNoWriMo isn't actually about quality its about quantity. It is about having an idea and getting it all out there. Then take your time later to revise and refine.

So for any of you who are reading my work keep this in mind. It's not my best and it's going to need improvement, but that isn't what I'm going for right now. I will have time to fix it all later.

Enjoy Day Two.

Day One

After a bit of a rough and slow start, I managed to write 2160 words last night. Thanks to day light savings, I had 1 free hour of writing. I got a little freaked out because I had looked at the time and saw it was 1:30am. Then some time went by while I typed away. Then I glanced at the time, it was 1:00am, again.

I had to ask my new Nano buddy this year, Thom, if it was day light savings. Kind of weird but at least I didn't feel like I was up so late. That is when I went to bed, and I had a hard time sleeping because my mind was racing with new ideas, and what I planned to do next.

Unfortunatly, the Nanowrimo site is slow as hell, like always, so I had a hard time updating my work count, but it seemed to have finally just gone through.

Plot

Last year I bought a very nice notebook for Nanowrimo, but I didn't want to write anything in it unless I thought it was going to be perfect, because it was expensive and nice and I didn't want any crap in there. So it stays blank and any pages I wrote on are ripped out.

Today, I went to the dollar sore and bought a crappy little notebook for a dollar. I had no plot, but I opened up the book and started doing this odd thing that I never do. I BRAINSTORMED. I scribbled with a dull, unsharpened pencil all over a few pages and I got an idea! Last minute, no real thinking.

The only problem I'm having is the fact that its starting to sound like a teen novel, so I'm trying to make the novel more adult.

The setting is in the somewhat near future where technology is starting to become very advanced, architecture is very new, and people are big on up to date style and living. Cities have expanded and grown so fast that they have moved their city center to the new areas and left the older parts of town in the dust. They have also been going through a lot of waste. People are so big on getting the newest and the best, they are throwing out perfectly good electronics and appliances to make way for their new products. Junk yards and dumps are growing at an alarming rate.

The main character is an art student in a very refined, up to date school. Hands on methods are obsolete in the art world, and everything is done with computers. Think photoshop, illustrator, in design, etc. Even sketches are done using a program. The main character doesn't feel like she belongs in this type of class and drops out. Her parents who she has been living with (for a bit too long) become very unhappy and kick her out of her home. She moves in with an old childhood friend who happens to live in the old industrial area of the city.

Here she meets new people and starts a new way of living. These people are junk yard scavengers. They reuse old electronics to make new technology.

All of this came out of air. I didn't think I would ever have a good plot. Thanks musty smelling crappy notebook.
